In the face of growing environmental concerns, INCIRCULAR emerges as a beacon of innovation and sustainability in the plastics industry. This European Union-backed project aims to revolutionise the way we deal with wasted plastic scraps by transforming them into high-quality, bioplastic recyclates. Through cutting-edge technology and cross-regional collaboration, INCIRCULAR is set to establish a circular economy model that can significantly reduce the environmental impact of plastic production and disposal.
Project overview
Plastics have long been a double-edged sword for modern society, offering unparalleled convenience and durability while posing significant environmental challenges. Addressing this dilemma head-on is INCIRCULAR, a project funded by the European Union’s Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) Instrument. The project aims to redefine the lifecycle of plastics, transforming waste into valuable resources and setting a new standard for the circular economy, embodying the EU’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and industrial symbiosis.
INCIRCULAR, which stands for INtegrating Cybernated Innovation to Raise the scale of Circular Units Looping Allied Regions, seeks to harness the potential of digital and process technologies to create a circular ecosystem for plastics, ensuring their reuse and recycling at an unprecedented scale.
With a robust consortium of partners from Slovenia, France, and Spain, INCIRCULAR is a truly collaborative initiative. The project spans 36 months and involves a budget of over €4 million to develop and scale up innovative recycling processes and materials. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate that bioplastics sourced entirely from recycled plastics can match or exceed the performance of traditional petroleum-based plastics.
The Slovenian city of Celje became the stage for the INCIRCULAR kick-off meeting
From 24 to 26 October 2023, the Slovenian city of Celje welcomed partners of the INCIRCULAR project for its kick-off meeting. Hosted by the project coordinator TECOS, the event brought together representatives of all partner organisations from the regions of Andalusia (Spain), Auvergne Rhone Alpes (France) and Vzhodna Slovenija (Slovenia). The two-day meeting was carefully designed to cover critical aspects of the project and foster a collaborative environment for the journey ahead.
This moment marked the beginning of a promising journey for INCIRCULAR. By bringing together a diverse group of experts and stakeholders, the project is well-positioned to achieve its ambitious objectives. The collaborative spirit and shared commitment to innovation and sustainability that characterise the project team will undoubtedly drive the project forward.
